What the 9:16 canvas is used for

TikTok is a full-screen vertical platform, and 1080 × 1920 px is the canvas that matches it. You will use it for the cover image that represents a video in your profile grid, for photo-mode posts, and for any graphic you overlay into a vertical clip. Starting at the right size matters more here than on most platforms: a cover cropped from a landscape photo loses the edges, and the profile grid shows it even smaller.

Safe areas on a full-screen canvas

The exported file is always the full 1080 × 1920 — nothing is cropped away — so safe areas are a composition choice, not a technical limit. Keep the subject and any words in the central band of the canvas, and let the edges carry only background.
