Shopify Image Size: 2048 × 2048 px
A 2048 × 2048 px square is a practical high-resolution canvas for Shopify product photos. It gives the sharpness that zoomed-in browsing expects, a clean 1:1 shape that themes display consistently, and enough headroom to crop for cards and banners later without starting over.
Why 2048 px works for a store
Store product images are inspected, not just glanced at: shoppers pinch-zoom into stitching, connectors, texture, and labels before they trust a listing. Every zoom multiplies the pixels on screen, so the source image has to hold detail beyond its displayed size — that is exactly what a 2048 px square provides. Start from the largest original you have and crop down to the square; enlarging a small photo to fill the canvas only softens the very details the zoom is there to show.
The square shape also earns its keep across a store's surfaces. Product cards, collection grids, and most theme layouts assume a consistent ratio, and a 1:1 master crops cleanly into all of them. Shoot or place the product centrally so the interesting part survives every downstream crop a theme can apply.
Preparing a Shopify product image
- Open the Shopify preset.
The canvas is preselected at 2048 × 2048 when you arrive from this page. - Fill the square deliberately.
Keep the product complete and centered, with even breathing room on all sides. - Add only useful overlays.
A cm/inch dimension arrow can answer a buyer question; keep it clear of the product's edges. - Inspect, then export.
Check corners and fine detail at high zoom in the preview, then download and open the file before uploading.
Common questions
How is this different from the Amazon or Etsy canvases?
Different marketplaces, different working sizes: Amazon uses a 2000 × 2000 square and Etsy a 2000 × 1600 landscape. The editor keeps Shopify, Amazon, and Etsy as separate presets so each listing workflow starts on its own canvas instead of reusing the wrong one.
Do all my product images need to be exactly 2048 × 2048?
The main image benefits most from the full square. Secondary images — detail crops, scale references, lifestyle shots — can come from the same 2048 px master so the set stays consistent, but the exact size matters most for the image shoppers zoom into first.
Does this page guarantee my store's theme displays it perfectly?
No. Themes crop and arrange images differently and can change over time. Use the square master as a safe base, then check how your theme renders cards, grids, and the product page itself.
